I'm psyched that you read my JMT story AND gear list. Nikon makes the NEX 5N that is similar to a full DSLR but weighs half and is much smaller. 18 oz w/ the lens, ouch.Andy Dhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06409929630529165216noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4430963013093374492.post-13071539829266092762012-06-15T20:29:31.166-07:002012-06-15T20:29:31.166-07:00Never mind. I'm glad this may have provided some inspiration to get out on the trail. It's amazing out there, and after just a few miles the crowds are gone.

Bear canisters are required in Yosemite and I have heard stories about people being walked out of the wilderness for not having one. Although I would rather not carry one I feel that using a bear canister keeps the bears safe from humans.

I carried a Bear Boxer Contender. It's the smallest and lightest one I could find (25 ozs). At 275 cubic inches there is enough room for three days worth of food. By carrying the first days food in an odorproof bag and finishing it by the end of the first day I had enough room for all four days worth of food.

If you're interested check out my JMT Gear List for more details:

http://seatosummitultralight.blogspot.com/p/jmt-gear-list.html

See you on the trail!

Andy.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4430963013093374492.post-79257626892699508052011-08-02T23:14:36.127-07:002011-08-02T23:14:36.127-07:00Hey ultralight guy, I really enjoyed your blog.
